Our Mission

                   OUR MISSION AND GOALS

Our Mission is to change the people attitudes towards people with disabilities and to prove that we can live normal lives in the community. Yes we have our struggles, so dose everyone else in the world. But we can do pretty much what everyone else can; it just might take us a little longer. Self Advocates wishes and hopes that one day we’ll be more accepted in our communities.

Here are just a few of our goals:

·         Sponsor public awareness and education forums about people with intellectual disabilities so that more people in our community are informed about community living, representation agreements, government policies etc.

·         Hold monthly meeting of our local self advocacy groups in the Fraser Valley so that we can connect with each other and have a safe place to meet and talk about important issues and learn about our rights.

·         Have our own computer so that we can connect with other self advocates who live in the Fraser Valley region and the rest of the world. We want to share our stories and support other people who might need our help. We learn from each other’s experiences.

The Fraser Valley Self Advocacy Network believes that all people in the community should be treated with respect and dignity, especially if they have a disability. In order for us to be included in the community we need to do the following activities so that everyone knows about us.
