NewComputer.ca
NewComputer.ca is one of the top providers of computer assistance in the Fraser Valley. They offer an online computer troubleshooting forum that most computer companies shy away from because it usually means less money. NewComputer.ca is not concerned with obtaining your money, they are only concerned about making sure that your computer is running at it's peak performance. The proof is in this website. You will find a lot of information about how to fix and repair your computer yourself. Tips and tricks on how to make your computer run better and information on everything from virus definitions to setting up a home network. By perusing the website you may find that you are unable to solve your computer problems yourself. They have certified and qualified staff that are ready to assist you. Whether it is an in home troubleshooting sessions or we need to bring your machine into the shop, you are always in good hands. They thrive on referral business and that is where most of their new customers come from. Don't let some second rate computer repair shop NOT take care of you. Give the guys at NewComputer.ca a call and see what it is like working with people who really care about your needs and enjoy what they do. NewComputer.ca history: Rod Friesen founded NewComputer.ca about 7 years ago. It started with odd jobs mostly for family members. He would fix a driver issue here or a hard drive failure there. It became apparent quickly that this is something he enjoyed doing and because of the business generated by referrals, he was becoming inundated. He then began to bring on staff to assist. His wife Jennifer helps out when she can with hardware installs and upgrades and most of the onsite work is done by Rod or one of the other guys at NewComputer.ca. Family owned and operated means that there is effort in the work that goes into each job. No job is too big or too small.

The Royal College of Psychiatrists
Some people have special difficulty in learning to talk, look after themselves and in coping with schooling and preparation for adult life. This disability, once called mental handicap or retardation, is now known as learning difficulty or disability. The disability can be quite mild or so severe that independent life is impossible. Many people will get depressed at some time in their lives, including people with learning disability. Bereavement, disappointment, stress, or illness are some possible causes, but depression may also occur for no apparent reason. Generally periods of depression are short but sometimes they last much longer, when special help is needed. Because depression is so common, it is usually easy to spot. As well as obvious feelings of sadness or misery, symptoms may include a loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities, agitation and restlessness, disturbances of eating and sleeping, lack of motivation and a loss of self confidence and self esteem. People who are depressed may be able to talk about their feelings to their family, friends or workmates, and to their GP. Talking is an important part of getting better. The problem for many people with learning disabilities is that they are not able to express their feelings easily in words. So their actions may have to speak for them. Sudden changes in behaviour or mood, or not being able to do things they could previously do may all be important signs of depression. These changes in behaviour are often mistakenly viewed as just a phase, and so the right help may not be given. Unfortunately, it can be all too easy to forget that people with learning disabilities have feelings, too. In this leaflet we suggest ways in which depression in people with learning disability can be better recognised, and how they can be helped.

MCC Supportive Care Services' Peer Support Program
MCC Supportive Care Services' Peer Support Program is designed to provide support to people who have mental illnesses (consumers), such as schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder & depression. The goal of the program is to train and support consumers who have walked the walk of mental illness and survival to become peer mentors. We serve people within the communities of Abbotsford, Mission, Chilliwack & Hope, British Columbia, Canada. This is what Larry, a Peer Support worker, has to say about his experience in the program: "Peer Support is a very important job to me. Through it I've received a better understanding of mental illness. My self-esteem has grown since I started helping people through this program. My appearance and over-all health has changed. On top of that, I work with a great group of people, and I have two terrific clients. I find this a challenging and rewarding job. "I don't know if I can adequately express the benefit that becoming a peer support worker has had on my life. I'm learning healthier ways of thinking and behaving. I'm learning about boundaries and more effective communication. As well as the value of discipline, responsibility, how to own my feelings, or just to be a little thicker skinned sometimes. I feel that I am more assertive now. To see growth in my clients gives me hope for the future. It's inspiring for both my clients and for myself."

The Canadian Mental Health Association
(CMHA) exists to promote the mental health of all people and to serve mental health consumers, their families and friends. Founded in 1918, it is one of the oldest voluntary organizations in Canada. Each year, CMHA provides direct service to more than 100,000 Canadians through the combined efforts of more than 10,000 volunteers and staff in locally run organizations in all provinces and territories, and branches in more than 135 communities. Our work focuses on combating mental health problems and emotional disorders. Our tools include research and information services, sponsored research projects, workshops, seminars, pamphlets, newsletters and resource centres. We run programs that assist with employment, housing, early intervention for youth, peer support and recreation services for people with mental illness, stress reduction workshops and public education campaigns for the community. In addition, CMHA acts as a social advocate to encourage public action and commitment to strengthening community mental health services and legislation and policies affecting services. All our mental health projects are based on principles of empowerment, peer and family support, participation in decision-making, citizenship, and inclusion in community life. To do our work we rely heavily on public and corporate donations. If you would like to donate a sum of money to The Canadian Mental Health Association National Office please click on the donate now button below and follow the instructions carefully.

the National Empowerment Center Inc
the mission of the National Empowerment Center Inc. is to carry a message of recovery, empowerment, hope and healing to people who have been diagnosed with mental illness. We carry that message with authority because we are a consumer/survivor/expatient-run organization and each of us is living a personal journey of recovery and empowerment. We are convinced that recovery and empowerment are not the privilege of a few exceptional leaders, but rather are possible for each person who has been diagnosed with mental illness. Whether on the back ward of a state mental institution or working as an executive in a corporation, we want people who are mental health consumers/survivors/expatients to know there is a place to turn to in order to receive the information they might need in order to regain control over their lives and the resources that affect their lives. That place is the National Empowerment Center.

More specifically, it's a conversation on caring citizenship - a notion of citizenship based on contribution, participation, relationship, and a commitment to the common good. Our inspiration for this dialogue stems from our roots in the disability community. We believe that welcoming the presence and participation of people with disabilities as well as others who have been marginalized or isolated - will revitalize our communities and strengthen our society. In fact, we believe that everyone has an important contribution to make to civic life, and that the health of our society depends on the active participation of all citizens. So we want to make sure that everyone is included in the conversation. The Philia Dialogue creates a space where everyone's voice can be heard; where everyone's wisdom can be shared; where we can learn, grow, work and play together. United Nations Statistics on Human Functioning and Disability
Human functioning and disability Introduction | Statistics | Standards and methods | Meetings The demand for statistics on human functioning and disability has greatly increased following the International Year of Disabled Persons (1981), the adoption of the United Nations World Programme of Action Concerning Disabled Persons (1982), and the release of the Standard Rules on the Equalization of Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities (1993). The World Programme of Action specifically requested the United Nations to develop systems for the regular collection and dissemination of information on disability. The questionnaire on Human Functioning and Disability Statistics was subsequently developed based on recommendations and decisions by expert group meetings and the United Nations Statistical Commission. In March 2006 the United Nations Statistics Division initiated a systematic and regular collection of basic statistics on disability through the existing Demographic Yearbook data collection system. This web site is a statistical reference and guide to the standards and methods and available data on human functioning and disability.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a voluntary health agency -- a dedicated partnership between scientists and concerned citizens aimed at conquering neuromuscular diseases that affect more than a million Americans. MDA combats neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive medical and community services, and far-reaching professional and public health education. With national headquarters in Tucson, MDA has more than 200 offices across the country, sponsors 230 hospital-affiliated clinics and supports nearly 400 research projects around the world. MDA supports more research on neuromuscular diseases than any other private-sector organization in the world. MDA scientists are in the forefront of gene therapy research and have uncovered the genetic defects responsible for several forms of muscular dystrophy, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease), childhood spinal muscular atrophy, and several other neuromuscular conditions. The Association's comprehensive service program includes medical examinations, flu shots, support groups, MDA summer camps for youngsters and assistance with purchase of wheelchairs and leg braces. MDA was created in 1950 by a group of adults with muscular dystrophy, parents of children with muscular dystrophy, and a physician-scientist studying the disorder. Since its earliest days it has been energized by its number-one volunteer and national chairman, entertainer Jerry Lewis. The Association's programs are funded almost entirely by individual private contributors. MDA seeks no government grants, United Way funding or fees from those it serves.

You can find links to other sites about sexuality issues. There is a link to a Yahoo discussion group Susan moderates. Susan's resume is on the site if you want to check her out. You can also email Susan privately. In the spring of 2003 there will be a safer sex store, too.

Disability and sexuality
People with physical or intellectual disabilities in our society are often regarded as non-sexual adults. Sex is very much associated with youth and physical attractiveness, and when it is not, is often seen as "unseemly". If sex and disability are discussed, it is very much in terms of capacity, technique, and fertility - in particular, male capacity and technique and female fertility—with no reference to sexual feelings (Zola, 1988). This approach ignores other aspects of sexuality, such as touching, affection, and emotions. If we accept that sexual expression is a natural and important part of human life, then perceptions that deny sexuality for disabled people deny a basic right of expression.. The perception of people with disabilities as non-sexual can present a barrier to safe sex education, both for workers who may be influenced by these views, and for disabled people themselves in terms of gaining access to information and acceptance as sexual beings. As one physically disabled woman wrote: "How could you do it?" was a question which had many nuances and was put to me by many people during and after my pregnancy. The GP wondered how I could have had intercourse in my "predicament" . . . you see, not only was it immoral to be an unmarried mother, it was doubly immoral to be an unmarried mother AND a severely disabled person . . . For paraplegic and quadriplegic people, a loss of sexual function does not mean a corresponding loss of sexuality. Sexual function may be impaired but can, like other functions, be increased, although fertility is usually lost for men. After spinal cord injury the spinal centre for sexual function is generally intact; it is the communication from the brain to the spinal centre that is usually disrupted. Unless some sensation in the area of the sexual organs remains, the usual sensation of orgasm is lost, but phantom orgasm elsewhere in the body may be experienced. However, the physical and emotional aspects of sexuality, despite the physical loss of function, continue to be just as important for disabled people as for non-disabled people. In relation to intellectual disability, society frequently takes the view that intellectually disabled people have no rights at all to pursue social and sexual relationships. They have often been completely denied sex education. Intellectually disabled people are sometimes regarded as sexually deviant because they may exhibit socially inappropriate sexual behaviour. Just as can happen in the rest of the community, some intellectually disabled people grow up in situations (e.g. institutions) which differ from the norm in many ways. This can cause difficulties in social and personal development, and can contribute to the development of socially inappropriate behaviour. It can also be more difficult for intellectually disabled people to distinguish between public and private behaviours. In addition, opportunities for sexual exploration among disabled people, particularly the young, are very limited. There is often a lack of privacy and they are much more likely than other young people to receive a negative reaction from an adult if discovered. The general reduction in life choices also has an impact on self-esteem which in turn affects sexuality (Smith, 1987). It is important for educators—particularly those involved in educations programs with disability workers or disabled people— to understand community attitudes towards disability and sexuality, and the impact of these views upon disabled people themselves.

The Sexual Health Network
Disability and Illness Introduction: Disability or illness can potentially impact any aspect of a person’s sexuality. People with a disability or living with an illness may wonder whether they can have children, if their partners will stay with them, if anyone will find them sexually desirable, or if they will ever enjoy sex again. Sexual-esteem or positive regard for and confidence in one’s ability to experience sexuality in a satisfying and enjoyable way may be shattered for a person with a disability. Many assume, incorrectly, that sexual intimacy is no longer possible due to sensation loss in the genitals. As a result, some may decide to ignore sexuality issues because they believe they no longer apply to them; others will seek out any opportunity to restore sexual-esteem. Questions, concerns, and feelings of anger about our sexuality are natural after disability or illness. Sexualhealth.com seeks to dispel myths about sexuality and provide the most accurate information about sexuality and disability or illness possible.

Jane Cameron personal website
Born in High River, Alberta, in 1949, Jane Cameron had an exemplary life. She travelled the globe, met dignitaries and stars, filled her room with medals and trophies commemorating her feats, and earned the esteem of countless individuals who praise her art and her grace. When she was diagnosed with Down syndrome at four months old, Jane's parents were told their daughter was "retarded" and that they should: "Put her in an institution and forget about her." They were shocked and, despite knowing little to nothing about Down syndrome they decided that what their child needed was as much love, care and education as they could possibly give her. When Jane was thirteen her school in Montreal implemented a policy that "these children" needed no academic training apart from such things as street signs and signs for Danger, Men and Women. Unwilling to accept that Jane deserved anything less in life than any other child, the Cameron's enroled her into the internationally renowned Doctor Franklin Perkins School in Lancaster, Massachusetts. After ten years at the Perkins school Jane joined the sheltered workshop, "Le Fil d'Ariane" back in Montreal. This workshop or Atelier was quite unique; it is more of an art school than a workshop. Jane quickly demonstrated that she was much more than a stitcher who could follow patterns. Jane soon became the alelier's chief designer. Many of her designs were turned into huge tapestries that were commissioned by such organizations as the office of the Prime Minister, Mirabel Airport and Reader's Digest Canada. Although her artistic talent was not discovered until Jane was about twenty, her tapestries now hang across the world. Jane's embroidered tapestries are glowing statements of her imagination and her love and affection for all living things. A life that could have been a tragedy became one of joy for Jane's parents and hope for other parents of children with Down syndrome. Jane was also an accomplished swimmer with many medals for her success including the two silver ones she won in international competition at the Special Olympics in Brockport, New York. She was featured in the film on the Special Olympics: "It's in Everyone of Us", and has appeared on television in Montreal and Calgary. Perhaps Jane's greatest accolade is the book written about her and her art by Dr. M. Klager, a professor of art at Heidleberg University. Jane is an example of the unknown potential hidden in many Down Syndrome children which only needs the opportunity to be discovered and developed.

DizAbled
The concept of Leeder O. Men was born in 1985 while I was a teacher’s assistant at an adaptive weight training class at Santa Barbara City College. When I started to lift grown men with their wheelchairs buckled to their bodies up to the chin-up bar for fifty pull-ups, I became irreversibly involved. Leeder’s first stunt emerged in my sketch book shortly after. I published early cartoons as editor of my own small skateboard magazine called Naughty Nomads. Leeder’s cartoon family were all skateboarders, so he soon learned to defy gravity with his own unique brand of ramp riding. Leeder went on to acquire a cult following in the underground skateboard zine trading phenomena of the late 80s and early 90s (many NN followers have since rediscovered Leeder in vivid color right here), paving the way for his inevitable return when he reappeared in ’94 with stronger wheels and a web site. In 1995, I married Claire Le Guern-Lytle, Leeder’s assistant mouthpiece and visual consultant. She also happened to be a writer for paraplegic students at the University of Paris Dauphine while she was a law student at the University of Paris Pantheon Sorbonne. In the fall of ’97, dizABLED evolved into its present strip format. It’s 2007 and we are hard pressed for free time raising our family, yet we know where this strip is headed. We have started to compile the ideas that have been contributed and as we begin inking, the site will be updated as we complete them. We would love nothing more than to draw them every week for you again. Maybe someday. Leeder still sees the new future, to boldly roll where no one has rolled before. With the arrival of “wheelchair skateboarders” and ”hardcore sitting”, a new level of excitement has been realized and it is very exciting to see Leeder’s forcast becoming a reality in these living, breathing athletes.

Center on Disability and Community Inclusion
Welcome to the Web Page for the Family Support, Self-Determination and Disability Training Curriculum. This family-developed, participatory curriculum offers six modules that include: Philosophy of Family Support -a family-centered approach which views individuals and family members as interdependent parts of a family system Cultural Competence- awareness of the cultural basis for value systems. It looks at attitudes that lead to judging the choices and actions of families from other backgrounds. Assessing Needs and Determining Supports- looks at planning for supports within the limitations of existing services, versus a more flexible, open-ended reliance on resources. Identifying and Coordinating Resources- the professional role is changing from a "gatekeeper" to "agent" who connects and coordinates supports for families. Skills for Working Together with Families- hones essential skills in more complex communication situations with families. Participants identify their own "natural" conflict mode or style and learn when it is most likely to help them and when it may cause more problems, according to the situation. Evaluating Family Support-families should oversee the quality of supports they receive. Families' perceptions of their own ability and effectiveness are examined as a measure of program success. Please feel free to download and use the Teachers and Participants Manuals. The original materials are not under copyright. Optional readings and information about Training for Trainers are available from

STEPS Forward
STEPS Forward Inclusive Post-secondary Education Society (STEPS) was incorporated in 2001 by a group of parents concerned that there was no place in society for their children with intellectual disabilities as they reached adulthood no place for lifelong education, no place for employment, no place to participate as citizens. STEPS mandate is to transform post-secondary education in the province of British Columbia by modelling inclusion for students with intellectual disabilities, starting at UBC (STEPS-UBC) and eventually expanding to other colleges and universities throughout the lower mainland and the rest of the province. As post-secondary inclusion becomes the norm, young adults with intellectual disabilities and their parents will begin to exercise their right to participate in society as full citizens. More importantly, members of the community at large, whose access to post-secondary education and right to find fulfilment through meaningful employment is a given, will begin to see inclusion as the norm as well. In short, this project will transform both the life chances for people with intellectual disabilities and the nature of post-secondary communities.

We believe that until you and the other person are de-escalated, no training (i.e., behavior program, etc.) or work will take place. The Mandt System® blends well with a Behavior Support approach. The Mandt System® teaches the use of a graded system of alternatives which uses the least amount of external management necessary in all situations. The entire philosophy of The Mandt System® is based on the principle that all people have the right to be treated with dignity and respect.

WorkAble Solutions is an initiative to connect BC employers to persons with disabilities by providing valuable employment resources and support. The goal of the initiative is to help employers turn potential challenges into workable solutions and increase the recruitment and retention of persons with disabilities. All research points to the fact that persons with disabilities represent a large, growing, and as yet, untapped pool of talent. In light of a looming skills shortage caused by a reduced level of new labour force entrants and higher levels of retirement, it is essential that employers tap into this talent pool to access skilled workers. Hiring persons with disabilities will also help to reduce turnover costs, while building an inclusive and positive work environment

Free Games Net
Free Games Net began life as a small personal webpage, with a few games listed. The site was called, 'Small Playable Games', but after growing more and more popular we got our own domain name: freegamesnet.com (someone else owns that domain name now as I didn't care to buy it from our previous host). However, things didn't go well with our webhost (I'll go into detail about this some time) so we had to move and register another domain name: free-games-net.com, and over the past few years the site has grown and grown. In our prime the site got 6-8 thousand visitors a day and we've had numerous amounts of people writing reviews for us. Recently however web ads don't make as much money as they used to, so I can't put as much time into this site as I once could. As there were so many broken links on the old design I have redone the site, now I just list the best games (whats the point in having downloads if they're not worth it?), and there are no broken links, as I host the games on this server if they can't be found anywhere else. The site today is still popular, and we're now on the best server we've ever had - a dedicated one which is fast, and gives us a LOT of bandwidth. I'm happy to see our rivals are still going strong, such as dosgames.com, gemsgames.gamespoint.net and madmonkey.net, unfortunately finnishgames.com is no longer under-development, this is a great shame as 'Kimmo's Gamepage' was the inspiration for Small Playable Games, and Kimmo's Gamepage went on to become finnishgames.com. Ha11owed.

Kris Ann Piazza
If you want to change the way people look at something, you have to inspire them to step out of their comfort zones to see a different perspective. People like to 'pigeon hole' or categorize people so they can file them away in their brain for easy reference at a later date. It makes things simpler than trying to remember each unique detail of every individual. Grouping specific types of people together with similar characteristics does help us sort through the many bits of information we confront each day, but it can also cause unfortunate filing errors that keep us from realizing important details. Getting a person to throw out those nice, comfortable files is not an easy thing to do. You have to convince them that they've made a filing error, persuade them to throw out the erroneous file, and challenge them to create a whole new filing system altogether. When I sustained my spinal cord injury in 1980 at the age of 12, I got the impression that I was expected to lie back and let the world take care of me for the rest of my life. Such an empty existence was not appealing to my young self, but I struggled for years to develop a strategy that would help me discover the world and all it had to offer me so I could show the world what I had to offer it. My life offers visible proof of how significantly underestimated people with with spinal cord injuries can be. As I matured, I unintentionally developed a life strategy that only writing my novel IMPACT has brought to my attention through hindsight. The strategy consisted of five basic elements: acceptance, self-discovery, goals, action, and self-recognition. I've educated thousands of people by opening the channels of candid communication to challenge the negative things others think about people living with spinal cord injuries, inspire them to think differently and persuade them to see the benefit of never underestimating the human spirit. You can do that, too.

Citizen Advocacy of Ottawa
Bringing people together: that's the real goal of Citizen Advocacy of Ottawa. Right now in our community, there are people with disabilities who feel alone and isolated. There are people with disabilities whose hopes, dreams, and, sometimes, basic needs are not being taken seriously. What they'd really like is to feel included. What they'd really like is someone who will talk with them, listen to them, support and encourage them, do things, go places, and help them in any way that a good neighbour or friend naturally would. There are also ordinary citizens who want to give their time to make a positive difference to the life of a person with a disability. They voluntarily represent and protect the rights and interests of other people. They help them face challenges and encourage them to participate in the community life of Ottawa. Citizen Advocacy sets up one-to-one matches between volunteer advocates and people with disabilities that can have profound effects on both. Citizen Advocacy is one of only a few Ottawa agencies supporting people with a wide range of disabilities, including physical limitations, developmental delays, mental illness, and disabilities related to aging. Citizen Advocacy of Ottawa is a registered Canadian charitable organization (13036 2817 RR0001) and a member of United Way/Centraide.

The BC Press Council Newspaper Links
The BC Press Council is a self-regulatory body governing the newspaper industry in British Columbia. It was established in 1983 with two main aims: to promote ethical practices within the BC newspaper community and serve as a forum for complaints against its members. The BC Press Council has created a Code of Practice for journalists to encourage high professional and ethical standards, in the belief that vigilant self-regulation is the hallmark of a free and responsible press. The Press Council considers "unsatisfied" complaints from the public about the conduct of member newspapers in the gathering and publication of news and opinion. The Council Directors oversee the mediation and adjudication of complaints, with input and response from both the newspaper and the complaint holder.

BETHESDA CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION, British Columbia
Bethesda (Aramaic for "Place of Mercy") began its vision of helping individuals with disabilities and their families in January 1971, when parents, disabled people and interested others gathered for the 1st Annual General Meeting and on May 13, 1971, there was great joy and gratitude to God as Bethesda as a charity was officially formed. Bethesda’s first Board of Directors included Ed Loenen (President), Dietrich Ramm (1st Vice President), Peter Jonkman (2nd Vice President), Nel Molenaar (Treasurer), Rits Vander Woude (Recording Secretary), Willy Van Est (Corresponding Secretary). "Bethesda" comes from John 5 in the Christian Bible: Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. Here a great number of disabled people used to lie - the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, "Do you want to get well?" "Sir," the man replied, "I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me." Then Jesus said to him, "Get up! Pick up your mat and walk." At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked. In the manner that Jesus showed mercy and compassion, the founding parents of Bethesda wanted to embrace Jesus' act of kindness in helping individuals with disabilities and their families - this central theme continues to be a focus of workers at the agency. Primarily, Bethesda supports individuals who have developmental disabilities. Quick Facts 265 Individuals and Families receive support 3008 Members throughout British Columbia 12 Board Directors 320 Employees and 369 Volunteers provide support Governance Elected by the Membership, Bethesda's Board of 12 Directors govern the Association. Each Director serves for a 3 year period and can be re-elected for one more 3-year period. A Self Advocate also serves on the Board and is appointed by the Directors. The Board meets regularly with its manager, the Executive Director, to review such information as necessary to ensure that the mission of Bethesda is being carried out throughout the agency. The Board is also involved in quality improvement initiatives, futures planning and highly values the input of individuals receiving services and their families.

The North Shore Association for the Mentally Handicapped was founded in 1956 and became a non-profit society in 1959. Today, the Association remains committed to assisting both children and adults who have a disability or developmental delay to reach their maximum potential. Untape
Untape is a site where people come to share practical tips for cutting through red tape, and getting the help you need from government and community agencies. Governments and bureaucracies are supposed to be there to help us. And the people who work there mean well. But systems, forms, rules and requirements can get complicated. And if you need to deal with more than one office... or, worse, more than one level of government... well, then it can become a nightmare. That's where Untape comes in. Every day, someone like you finds a way through the bureaucratic maze. And this site is where they can come to share what they've learned. Found a way to get a permit quickly? A community program most people don't know about? A way to bypass a ministry's voicemail and talk to a human being? You can share all these and more here... and find out what people like you have discovered, too.

Parents with Disabilities Online
Greetings! Welcome to Parents with Disabilities Online! We've been providing information, support and resources to parents with disabilities since 1996, when we were known as Diana Michelle's Home Page: The Internet's One-stop Resource for Parents with Disabilities. For too long, people with disabilities had been told that having families of our own was not an option. The truth is, though, that we have always been parents, and as our society evolves, more and more of us will have access to that opportunity. If you are a parent with a disability, a person with a disability who is planning to become a parent, or a nondisabled partner of a disabled parent, this site is for you. We hope that this page is a good place to start on your own journey toward independent parenting.

The Center uses the law in all its forms: getting new laws on the books and enforced; litigating ground-breaking cases in state and federal courts all the way to the Supreme Court; and educating the public about ways to make the law and public policies work for women and their families. An experienced staff of nearly 50 takes on the issues that cut to the core of women's and girls' lives in education, employment, family economic security, and health -- with special attention given to the needs of low-income women and their families.

Lekotek
Lekotek is about kids - kids with special needs. Like all kids, children with special needs love to play. Lekotek makes the world of play accessible to children with all types of disabilities through special play and learning centers where they can have fun with traditional toys, adapted toys, books and computers. And while they are playing, Lekotek kids are learning new skills that build the base for literacy, mathematical reasoning and computer use. Lekotek recognizes that raising a child with special needs is a family affair that puts demands on parents, siblings, caregivers, and extended family members. At Lekotek, families learn fun, creative and healthy ways to play together and to include their children into family and community activities. Children borrow adapted and traditional toys, books and software from Lekotek toy lending libraries for use at home. Nationwide, there are 34 Lekotek sites that offer family play sessions, toy lending libraries, Compuplay family computer centers, and other innovative community-specific programming. With the focus on what the child with disabilities can do, and with attention to the needs of the entire family system that supports the child, Lekotek plays an important role in helping children with disabilities reach their full potential.

The $10 NOW campaign
All low-income earners are not alike. However, they do have one important thing in common --- they are not paid enough money to live on. Among the working poor there are many British Columbians with disabilities. The BC Coalition of People with Disabilities (BCCPD) is supporting the BC Federation of Labour's campaign Make It Ten which calls on the provincial government to increase the minimum wage in British Columbia to $10 an hour and to eliminate the $6 an hour training wage. BCCPD'S Recommendations 1. We are calling for an immediate increase in the minimum wage to $10 an hour, with a subsequent increase to $11 in 2008. The minimum wage must be indexed to adjust for inflation to ensure that the purchasing power of low-wage earners is not eroded. We believe that British Columbians want to see all workers paid fairly for their labour. 2. We are also calling for the immediate elimination of the $6 training wage. It is discriminatory to force a group of workers to accept substandard pay that is 25% below what has been set as the base level that an employer must pay. The rationale of lowering youth unemployment has been a demonstrated failure: the British Columbia youth unemployment rate has increased every year since the $6 wage was introduced. Background Historically, the minimum wage was introduced to protect Canada's most vulnerable workers. The 2005 low-income cutoff line (LICO) provided by Statistics Canada was: • $20,778 for a single person living in an urban setting with a population of at least 500,000 • $16,273 for a person living in an urban centre with a population of less than 30,000. Low income earners in British Columbia have been pushed below the LICO: • A person working 40 hours a week at British Columbia's minimum wage of $8 is paid $16,640 a year. • In 1975, the minimum wage was 22% above the poverty line. British Columbia's current minimum wage is 20% below the poverty line, a loss of 42% from the 1975 rate. • The training wage is 40% belowthe poverty line, a loss of 62% from the 1975 minimum wage rate. The Canadian Association of Food Banks Hunger Count 2006 report showed that 81,248 people in British Columbia were forced to use food bank services and people with jobs were the second largest group of food bank clients. Clearly, the minimum wage is no longer fulfilling its purpose. British Columbia has a booming economy and a low unemployment rate. Unfortunately, the benefits of this prosperity are not widespread and British Columbia's lowest-paid workers are being left behind. The BC Progress Board was established by Premier Gordon Campbell to advise on how to improve the province's economic health and its citizens' well-being. In July 2007, the Board reported that British Columbia ranked second-to-last in Canada for having the most families and unattached individuals with incomes below the 2005 after-tax low-income cutoff level. British Columbia is a very expensive province to live in. It has some of the highest prices in the country for housing, food and transportation, but its minimum wage has been the same since 2001. A quarter of a million British Columbians earn less than $10 an hour. It is time to increase the minimum wage so that British Columbians living on low income can lead better, healthier lives and participate more fully in their communities. Please join the BCCPD to advocate for this crucial change in government policy. http://www.bcfed.ca/files/Minimumwagepetition.pdf

Sports Car Racing Club of B.C.
The Sports Car Club of B.C. was founded as a non-profit society in 1951. Members first raced at Abbotsford Airport from 1952 to 1956. In 1957 the members raised funds through debentures and built a full service road course in Coquitlam B.C, on Crown Land leased from the Provincial Government. For the next 32 years the club operated the track known as Westwood Motorsport Park, and affectionately referred to as Mountain High Racing. Westwood gained recognition throughout North America playing host to such greats as Gilles Villeneuve, Bobby Rahal, and Michael Andretti. The annual Atlantic series races often drew over 10,000 spectators. Sadly, the exciting facility was closed in 1990 to make way for the Westwood Plateau housing development. In July '94, the Club opened its current racing venue, the road course at Mission Raceway Park, River’s Edge Road Course, thanks to the support of the BC Custom Car Association and Molson Indy Vancouver. The track, a tight 2km - 7 turn course, provided a challenge to drivers and offered exceptional viewing for spectators. Over the next 8 years the track was expanded to 9 turns and 2 large grandstands provide a view of over 80% of the race track. Each year has seen larger racing grids, and a surge in club membership. The two Race Driver Training courses provided by the club each year are most often over-subscribed. The 2002 racing season saw the birth of the WestCoast SportsCar Championship. A highly competitive series for closed wheel senior drivers, which exceeded organizers expectations, the series was well supported by sponsors and spectators.

The Developmentally Challanged Youth Basketball Association
Purpose The DCY Basketball Association promotes and supports the development of basketball programs for youth with developmental challenges in BC. Who we serve Young men ages 13 to 25, who have the interest in the sport and the basic abilities needed to develop the skills and concepts of team basketball in an athletic setting. These include the ability to bounce or dribble a ball and to take 3-step direction. Our program includes basic skill development, team play and competitive game strategies. Volunteer & Peer Involvement We support and encourage the participation of non-challenged coaches and peer players in our athletes' skill development, team play and tournament involvement. This integration of non-challenged individuals is beneficial to both parties as the players' skills progress through visual modelling and the team play illustrates to the non-challenged player the real potential of the athletes. This is our vision of "Basketball for All". History The DCY Basketball Association was founded in 2001 when an advocating mother could not find a basketball team for her developmentally challenged son who is passionate about every aspect of basketball. This personal need to provide a venue and opportunity for him developed into the concept of our program and "Basketball for All". Objectives To encourage the participation and inclusion of developmentally challenged players in community basketball events. By fostering strong working relationships with organizers of such events, the long-term goal of DCY Basketball Assoc. is to develop a league (male and female), which will provide athletes with the opportunity to play at introductory, developmental and competitive levels in a structured environment.

On this site, you will find links to thousands of radio stations worldwide, all of which, with the correct (free!) software, you will be able to hear via your computer - GREAT if you're living away from home and want to listen to news from your country, or even your hometown radio station! With more websites worldwide linking to it than to the BBC, Live-Radio.net, which has been online since 1997, is the UK's most visited live radio site, and also the largest directory available of working links to radio stations broadcasting live on the Internet. It differs from other sites of this type, as it concentrates on live audio, and instead of simply adding station after station in an attempt to have the largest number, Live-Radio.net is actually maintained, and as well as adding links (which are not added unless they work!), those which no longer work are removed (within 4 weeks so as to allow the station(s) time to restore their audio). Many other sites of this type come to this site for their links, and this site which is used by the stations themselves, including the BBC World Service and the BBC Monitoring Service.

Bebo
Bebo is the next generation social networking site where members can stay in touch with their College friends, connect with friends, share photos, discover new interests and just hang out. From previous experience, the people who work at Bebo have learned a lot about what makes social networks fun, and believe that with Bebo they've taken social networking to the next level. But, we're never satisfied with where we are today, so if you have an idea on how we can make Bebo even better, please let us know. All you have to do is send us a very brief description (and by very brief we mean a short paragraph of no more than 100 words) of your idea by clicking here. If we like your idea, we will get in touch with you to hear more about it. You must realise, however, that Bebo has a dedicated development team who work day and night to come up with new ideas for the site, so please don’t be surprised or disappointed if Bebo has already come up with and is already working on a similar idea. If you don’t hear anything from us then it means that whilst it may be a good idea, it isn’t quite right for Bebo or it is already being considered and developed by the Bebo team. Please note that we will keep all emails relating to ‘new ideas’ for our records. We suggest that you keep copies too.
